Enterprising property boost for North Kent

The North Kent Enterprise Zone is now up and running as one of 12 new government-supported areas across the country.

Tasked with creating a home for 9,000 employees over the next decade, the North Kent Enterprise Zone embraces sites at Ebbsfleet Garden City; Kent Medical Campus near Maidstone, and Rochester Airport Technology Park in Medway.

The North Kent Enterprise Zone will bring forward a total of 230,800m2 of commercial property for potential occupiers and build on the success, and lessons learnt, from Discovery Park, near Sandwich.

The Government will support business rates discounts of up to £55,000 per year for five years for companies that locate within an Enterprise Zone by 31st March 2022.

Securing the new status has been one of those welcome examples of the public and private sector working together to put the case forward, this includes the specific landowners, local authorities, Locate in Kent, Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, Thames Gateway Kent Partnership and South East Local Enterprise Partnership.

The next big challenge will be persuading companies to move to the sites but there’s confidence the first tenants will be on site by the end of this year.

After working with the local partners and Department for Communities & Local Government, the announcement to the local press was managed by Maxim.
