Building is major new memorial to The Few

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. A battle of valour synonymous with Kent, it is being recognised with a new memorial building.

To commemorate the bravery and sacrifice shown by the 3,000 aircrew who flew, fought, and in many cases died, the new visitor and education centre at The National Memorial to the Few, Capel-le-Ferne, will by officially opened by the Queen next week.

Named The Wing and inspired by the elliptical wing of the Spitfire, the new centre was designed by Folkestone architectural practice Godden Allen Lawn and built by Ashford-based Epps Construction.

A few days after the royal visit, the new £3.5m centre opens to the public for the first time at 10am on Saturday, March 28.
