McArthurGlen has major designs on outlet expansion

After months of preparation, plans have been unveiled for massive expansion of the Ashford Designer Outlet.

Owners McArthurGlen are proposing to add an extra 100,000 square foot of retail space to the current 185,000 square foot. This would create an estimated 950 jobs for the East Kent town.

The proposals – released as part of a public consultation programme ahead of the submission of a planning application to Ashford Borough Council – would add 30 more shops to the 80 already there, plus restaurants, extra parking and more links to the town centre by late 2016 at the earliest.

Recognising the importance of the county’s retail offering in attracting inbound visitors, tourism champions Visit Kent has welcomed the news.
