Maidstone is in good health

Proposals to develop a medical campus, which could bring more than 3,000 jobs to the County Town over the next decade, have been given the go ahead on land at Junction 7 of the M20.

The Maidstone Medical Campus, developed by DHA Planning based at nearby Eclipse Park, covers 50 acres of farmland and will include facilities such as clinics and consultation rooms, education and training areas, plus accommodation blocks and pathology laboratories.
The proposals, which secured outline planning permission, include 350 accommodation units for doctors and nurses, 300 beds in halls of residence for students, and a further 116 flats for people with medical problems requiring support in what is described as a specialist ‘neuro-rehabilitation village’.

The proposed development is designed to build on what the Kent Institute of Medicine and Surgery will deliver when it opens in April 2014, creating a world-class medical facility.
