Fort-unate news for Sevenoaks?

Based at Fort Halstead, near Sevenoaks, Dstl has informed the local authority it is delaying its move to Porton Down for at least 12 months, with the departure from the Fort now scheduled for late 2017.

The company employs approximately 1,000 highly skilled scientists and engineers at the Fort. Kentcentric understands the hold up is the result of the considerable challenges in relocating the unique and complex facilities, which have delayed the design phase of the new centre in Porton Down.

The 300-acre Fort Halstead site was acquired by Armstrong Kent LLP, backed by Deutsche Bank's development arm and property company Hines UK, from defence technology company QinetiQ in 2005.
